My Life Story
My life story. Let’s see, there’s not much to say, but here it goes. My name is Erin Joy Goddard. I was born on April 11, 1989. I was born with mylomaningisil, in other words spinebifida. Basically, I was born without the tip of my spine, and I also had a hole in my lower back. My organ sacks to my nerves and bladder were outside of my body. The doctors quickly rushed me away for emergency surgery. My parents never really got to see me.
After the surgery, I had to stay in the hospital for ten days. The doctors told my parents what had happened and that children who had my problems would not be able to walk for the rest of their lives. All the doctors that my parents had talked said that I would be
paralyzed, but there was this one doctor named Dr. Pickett who told them that I would be the track star of the family.
When I got a little older my parents would be careful and not let me go down slides or anything that might hurt my back. I began to crawl and walk just like a regular kid. I never did have any complications.
I lived in Pensacola, Florida, for about eleven years then my family moved to Orange County, Ca. I know it was a very big move, but it was worth it. At the school I went to they had a girls basketball team. I tried out my eighth grade year, but I didn’t make it. Finally in ninth grade I made the team. Woo-hoo! My ninth grade year I made all-league team. I also played volleyball, and made all-league team too.
After my ninth grade year my family moved again to Lancaster, Ca. I also tried out for basketball, and volleyball. I made both sports, and did very well there too. So from a supposedly paralyzed baby to a sport playing girl, I think I have come a long ways and beat the odds.
And that’s my story. Thanks for reading!

Praise God for His goodness and mercy–What would any of us be without Him? I enjoyed reading your story, Lauren.
Thank you Joan, but I am Lauren’s younger sister Erin. Thanks for reading.
Erin,
So sorry about the mistake (which I just discovered today)–I was reading Lauren’s blog from her Facebook link, and saw the “my little sister” link on the side; after having clicked on so many different links to read Lauren’s stories, I must have gotten “lost” and thought I was still on her blog. (Again, my apologies, but I’m GLAD I stumbled on your site!)
Your style of writing seems to be much like Lauren’s (OR is it that Lauren’s is much like yours?!)
Ha! (some excuse, huh?)
Well, now that I’ve read a bit more from YOUR site, I must tell you that I enjoyed what you wrote and like your blog title too. The snowy tree graphics are great and give me mental relief from the record heat days we’ve been having here in Virginia.
Hope you’ve had a good school year and are enjoying your summer.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at Christina and Zach’s wedding.
Erin, I never knew that about you, but I held you many times when your mom opened her home to us PCC EAGLES Cheerleaders. God is so good to us. Thank you for sharing your story. I have a new baby boy, and each milestone is so important to me. You have reminded me to take a deep breath and let God have control. You have a talent for writing as well.
Cheers,
Carolee Riplinger Galla
